WEBINAR: Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment is hosting a series of Planning Connects webinars which started on 1 May and runs until 9 July. The free weekly webinars run every Tuesday (regional focus) and Wednesday (metro focus) 12-1pm. Anyone is welcome to register.

Western Sydney is growing at a rapid rate. In 2016, Western Sydney was home to 1.2 million residents and that number is projected to grow to over 1.8 million residents by 2036. The new international Western Sydney Airport is also scheduled to open in 2026. A challenge is to protect the Cumberland Plain which is also located in Western Sydney and is home to approximately 160 threatened flora and fauna species including the largest Koala population in Sydney, the Cumberland Plain land snail, and the nodding geebung and spike riceflower. The Department of Planning and Environment has engaged in strategic conservation planning at a landscape scale for this growing and environmentally significant area. The Plan covers around 200,000 hectares and is one of the largest conservation planning exercises ever undertaken in Australia.
